the largest nervous systems doubled in size about every fifteen million years since the cambrian explosion 550 million years ago; robot controllers double in complexity (processing power) every year or two,
not only will they be able to think autonomously, but robot intelligence and capabilities would equal (and most likely quickly surpass) any human capability.
robots are one of my favorite subjects. they are going to destroy our society.
but the real reason this happens won't be because they can work 24x7 without rest or are stronger or can process info faster.
no, the problem will be that robot workers will eliminate the jobs of many average human workers, particularly those in blue-collar and service lines of work. there will be robot painters, robot road repair, robot street sweepers, robot cashiers, robot repairers, etc.
the reality is that there are great masses of people who barely get by in school, who aren't creative, who will never be innovators. these people depend on average jobs that don't require heavy lifting in the form of brain power.
but what will we do with these people when robots have taken away their make work jobs? we will be left with a great excess of people w/o jobs and nothing to do, a sure recipe for social unrest!
people could stop breeding on their own in response but i think that unlikely to occur. therefore, government (that means taxes of some kind), will have to support all the non-workers (give them food, a roof over their heads, keep them occupied) while lacing their food with birth control drugs, or else convert them to protein a la soylent green.
(...)
be careful what you wish for. it might come true but the unintended consequences might be greater than expected....

their belief is that with futuristc technologies being developed in multiple fields, human intelligence may eventually be able to "escape its ensnarement in biological tissue" and be able to move freely across boundaries that can't support flesh and blood - while still retaining our identities.
